Job Description
Status: Full-time, Exempt Reports to: Director of Community Engagement Oversees: Group Volunteer Coordinator & Individual Volunteer Coordinator Qualifications: The ideal Volunteer Services Manager for the Northeast Iowa Food Bank understands and is passionate about the organization’s mission to provide nutritious food and grocery product to those in need in our 16 county service area. This individual will be a vital component of the Community Engagement Department in engaging the community and recruiting volunteers at the Food Bank in the fight against hunger. This team member must demonstrate outstanding ability to manage/oversee staff members, recruit the community to act regarding the cause of hunger, and have exceptional public speaking skills in order to provide optimal experiences and develop volunteer opportunities. The ability to work in a fast-paced and progressive environment will be key to success in this role. This individual will have exceptional salesmanship, interpersonal and detail-oriented skills, which will be critical for the development of strong relationships between the Food Bank and the community. Cultural competency is of utmost importance, as the Volunteer Services Manager will work with diverse populations on a regular basis. The Volunteer Services Manager must possess a strong sense of initiative, adaptability and flexibility to continually improve the Food Bank’s volunteer processes and experiences, and take on other duties as necessary. A passion for social justice and compassion for others are keys to being a staff member at the Northeast Iowa Food Bank. The Northeast Iowa Food Bank strives to work as a unified team to close the meal gap in northeast Iowa, to this end the Volunteer Services Manager will need to be capable of working as a team, as well as being a self-starter. In addition, maintaining a positive outlook will play a large role in being a motivator and encourager for the community, clients, and staff members alike. About the Job: The responsibilities of the Volunteer Services Manager include, but are not limited to, the following: • Oversee two paid staff members and a department that works with 15,000 volunteers annually. • Responsible for the recruitment and sufficient volunteer staffing of all Food Bank needs from corporate, religious, nonprofit and educational institutions. • Represent the organization in public meetings and with outside presentations to the community; attends community events, campaigns, and fairs to communicate volunteer needs • Develop strong relationships within the community to foster a positive image in order to make the NEIFB the volunteer organization of choice for groups and individuals • Engage volunteers in order to cultivate donors, in conjunction with development staff • Oversee the relationship between community job training programs and the Food Bank. • Oversee the NEIFB internship program • Responsible for all external relations pertaining to the NEIFB volunteer department • Assists with NEIFB advocacy and policy campaigns and/or events • Evaluate performance, productivity, satisfaction within volunteer department programs • Manage volunteer department budget • Planning for the future of the volunteer department; ability to follow through and execute plans • Develop and implement training for volunteer department staff and general NEIFB staff regarding volunteer management • Develop and maintain all volunteer department materials (volunteer handbook, code of conduct, application forms) • Document processes and complete necessary paperwork for the volunteer department (AARP, intern programming, staff management) • Develop, maintain, and distribute volunteer newsletter • Other duties as assigned Ticket/Specifications: Required: • 4 year degree or 5 year’s experience related to sales, communications or management; combination of education and experience taken into consideration • Exceptional oral, written, interpersonal and recruitment communication skills • Entrepreneurial approach to meeting challenges • Culturally competent, ability to work with diverse groups and individuals • Ability to work nights and weekends.
