The Greater Cedar Valley Alliance & Chamber seeks candidates passionate and skilled in helping businesses become more successful in the Cedar Valley economic area to become our full-time Director of Talent Development. 

Job Description
The Director of Talent Development is responsible for development, implementation and management of the Alliance & Chamber’s talent programming, which includes talent attraction and retention, alignment with educational institutions, and economic inclusion.
  • Communicate with and survey Cedar Valley companies to understand present and future workforce needs
  • Conduct data analysis to identify economic trends with regards to workforce needs and develop programming to address those needs
  • Provide workforce services to the business community to strengthen workforce retention and recruitment efforts.  This includes:
    • Providing information to human resource professionals and executives on workforce best practices
    • Raise awareness of career opportunities in the Cedar Valley by managing the regional job board, executing targeted marketing initiatives, and community programming
    • Provide input, content and assist as necessary on the regional talent attraction initiative, Live the Valley, to raise awareness of quality of life in the Cedar Valley to existing and potential workforce
    • Advocate for Cedar Valley employers’ interests with local educational institutions to create alignment between educational programming and business needs to build a strong talent pipeline
    • Identify and implement programming to remove workforce barriers (ex: child care availability and cost, public transportation availability, etc.)
    • Collaborate with statewide entities and programs to attract talent to Iowa and the Cedar Valley
    • Assist with advocating on behalf of Cedar Valley businesses for legislative policies that support workforce retention and recruitment
  • Manage and interpret economic data for workforce needs
  • Compile reports and make presentations to employers, elected officials, civic groups, and other public/private sector groups or task forces as needed

This role requires a dynamic, passionate individual, who is an excellent communicator, project manager, and driven to solve problems. The Director of Talent Development will be a self-starter, innovative, and responsive to needs of businesses and partners in the community.  They must be able to gather data from various sources and interpret it for talent programming.
The ideal candidate will be driven to contribute to further growth of the Cedar Valley, including collaboration with public and private partners and be part of a collaborate team that is results driven.
  • 1-2 years of related experience in economic development, human resources, workforce development, or project management preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree, with specialization in business, public relations, or human resources preferred (or equivalent in experience)
  • Data analysis
  • Problem solving skills in ambiguous situations and project management skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Communication and collaboration skills, ability to feel comfortable talking with top level executives and elected officials, and relationship building skills
  • Knowledge of the private sector workforce system and educational program development is a plus
