The Upward Bound program is seeking an Academic Coordinator! Upward Bound is a college preparatory program co-funded by the United States Department of Education and the University of Northern Iowa. It is designed to empower program participants with the academic skills and motivation necessary to be successful in high school and to ultimately complete college. This is one of several programs located in the UNI-Center for Urban Education Building in Waterloo, IA as part of the Educational Opportunity Programs & Special Community Services (EOP/SCS) office.
Responsibilities: Assists in the development and implementation of program goals and objectives; participates in selection and evaluation of staff; recruits and identifies program participants; aids in identifying and meeting academic needs of participants; counsels and advises participants; instructs assigned classes; manages Supplemental Instruction sessions; coordinates college visits; assists with operation of a robotics team; serves as liaison to University and community agency representatives; produces quarterly newsletters and maintains electronic media; assists with designing and implementing summer programming; conducts ACT preparation workshops and classification meetings; works with prospective post-secondary students in the completion of applications and financial aid forms; and compiles program information.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in education or related field plus at least two years of experience in counseling, teaching low-income high school or first-generation college students or related experience required. Master's degree plus TRIO and teaching experience preferred. Occasional evening and weekend work will be necessary.
