Remember the sacrifice of 9/11 first responders and discover resources for the future during the Cedar Falls Hope & Honor 9/11 5K on Wednesday, September 11. The event will start at 7:15 a.m. and be held rain or shine. Check-in begins at 6:45 a.m. at Paw Park (3200 S. Main Street). Register for the 5K at bit.ly/CFHopeHonor5K. Individuals and organizations are both invited to participate, and spectators are welcome. The 5K will begin and end on the Cedar Prairie Trail, next to the Scott Sterrett memorial marker. Parking is available at the Falls Aquatic Center (3025 S. Main Street). After check-in, participants will be escorted across the street to the memorial marker where Cedar Falls Mayor Danny Laudick will provide welcoming remarks. In place of an entry fee, the city is asking participants to help give back to our community by bringing two non-perishable food items to be donated to the Northeast Iowa Food Bank. The first 100 5K finishers will receive a medal courtesy of CODE 4 Public Safety Emblems, LLC. Refreshments will also be provided with free will donations going towards Retrieving Freedom, Inc., a local non-profit organization that trains specialized service dogs for veterans and children with autism. The event will have informational booths on-site at Paw Park from veterans and healthcare organizations including Black Hawk County Veterans Affairs, UNI Military and Veteran Student Services, AMVETS Post 49, UnityPoint Health Black Hawk-Grundy Mental Health Center, UnityPoint Health – Allen Mental Health Walk-in Clinic, Cedar Valley Hospice, Retrieving Freedom, Inc., and Lutheran Services in Iowa (LSI). All community members, as well as area public safety, city, and emergency organizations, are invited to stop by and connect with the information and resource booths provided.
